What I'd recommend for building your website

Thu, 06/25/2026 - 10:09am by travisamiel

three pink tubes.

Recently someone asked me about migrating off Wix--something I think everyone should do because I disagree with their politics and aesthetics. Probably due to lots and lots of advertising, many people I know use Squarespace. My experience with Squarespace's layout designer has always frustrated me, and the company was acquired by a private equity firm in 2024 so I REALLY wouldn’t recommend using it... given the PE playbook is typically to raise costs and reduce value.

Das Rauschgift is up and running through December 21st! Me and my darling collaborator have been blessed to do some interviews. This is the biggest project I've ever done, and I'm really grateful to get to talk about it on the record with people.

2026 January Theater Festival Planner

Tue, 11/11/2025 - 7:20pm by travisamiel

If you're struggling to coordinate the shows you want to see in the January theatre festivals (The Exponential Festival, Under the Radar, Prototype!), I am happy to now share my 2026 planning site.

The code was almost entirely written with Claude's Haiku 4.5 by using the chat in Visual Studio Code, but the site itself doesn't have any AI.

Suggestions for day-trip hiking from NYC

Sun, 07/13/2025 - 1:17pm by travisamiel

photo of sign to entrance of "dunnfield creek natural area" captioned "the winner of the where should i go hiking poll was"

I asked for day trip suggestions on where to go hiking from NYC (NOT COLD SPRING) and so many people shared GREAT ideas:

E.B. said 🚗 "Bear Mountain is great for beginners/on weekdays, 🚆Harriman State Park has sooo many." Noa added regarding Harriman: "You can get to the Tuxedo stop on NJ transit and walk from there, totally doable without a car"

And shared the following links:

Favorite things of 2024

Mon, 12/30/2024 - 2:36pm by travisamiel

As the year comes to an end, I wanted to share a couple of the things that I really fell in love with in 2024.

Never Post

This podcast, hosted by Mike Rugnetta (whose PBS Idea Channel hosting was a HUGE part of my life for years) talks about technology, social media, the cultural industry, and more. I've especially enjoyed their discussions of AI-generated art as genre and self-care turning into a marketing term for capitalism.

2025 January Festival Planner

Mon, 12/02/2024 - 6:01pm by travisamiel

screenshot of festival planning site.

tldr: I created a website to help figure out when to see shows in the 2025 Under the Radar, Exponential, PROTOTYPE, and LiveArtery shows using an AI platform called Bolt.

Background

Every January in New York City there are a bunch of festivals with incredible experimental theater: Under the Radar, PROTOTYPE, The Exponential Festival (<3) to name a few. There's even a whole website dedicated to this: JanArtsNYC!
